An easy trek along Kamikochi's Azusa river will reward your eyes with some of Japan's most spectacular mountain scenery! Taisho pond, Tashiro pond, Myojin pond and Takezawa marsh are amongst the very beautiful sights you will see while walking along Azusa river. Read Kamikochi's highlights!

A short but good hike up to Happo-ike (@2,060m above sea level) following a scenic nature study trail! The mystical scenery of Happo-ike banishes any feeling of fatigue from the effort to hike up there. A connection of gondola and chairlifts will take you way up so you only need to hike up a little to reach this majestic pond.

Trip Itinerary

Saturday (Aug 24)

  • Meet in Shinjuku at 7am
  • Get on the bus
  • Catch up on your sleep or chat with other members and get excited
  • Short stop for breakfast and buy some food (picnic lunch) on the way
  • Arrive at Sawando-hashi bus terminal around 11am
  • Transfer to Alpico shuttle bus
  • Arrive in Kamikochi around 11:30am
  • Trekking/sightseeing (11:30am-4:30pm)
  • Get on the Alpico shuttle bus
  • Transfer bus at Sawando-hashi bus terminal
  • Arrive in Hakuba around 7pm
  • Check-in at the hotel
  • Relax in the onsen/bath
  • Dinner at 8pm
  • Group party
  • Sunday (Aug 25)

  • Breakfast at 7am
  • Get the gear on
  • Join the Tsugaike Nature Park trek (8am-12pm) *Optional
  • Happo-ike trek (11:30am-3:30pm)
  • Take a quick hot shower/bath
  • Get on the bus at 4:30pm
  • Stop for dinner on the way
  • Arrive back in Shinjuku around 9pm

Important Notes

  • Itinerary may vary due to the weather, traffic conditions, and other unavoidable circumstances.
  • You MUST have your own insurance (health, social, company, etc.) to be able join.
  • Reasonable fitness required.
  • Private vehicles are not allowed in Kamikochi on weekends.
  • You can leave other belongings in the bus or hotel during the walks/treks. All you need is a small backpack, raincoat, picnic lunch, snacks, drinks, camera and cash.
  • The walk trail in Kamikochi takes about 5 hours but it is mostly flat. You'll be able to see Taisho pond, Tashiro pond, Myojin pond and Takezawa marsh while trekking along Azusa river. It's also very easy to find a nice picnic spot along the river.
  • The hike from the top of the chairlift to Happo-ike takes about an hour.
  • In order to explore Tsugaike Nature Park thoroughly, a minimum of four (4) hours is recommended, including the two (2) hour round-trip panorama way.
  • Room will be divided based on your preference.
  • Maximum of 4 persons for shared rooms.
  • Double room available at extra cost.
  • We will try to accommodate all dietary requirements. However, we are unable to guarantee the hotel/lodge can cater for every meal
