TG Badminton Club

Tokyo Gaijins or 'TG' organizes casual badminton sessions for various level players on weeknights and weekends at conveniently located gyms in central Tokyo! We normally play doubles but sometimes singles too depending on the no. of players that will show up. About 70% of our members are foreigners and 30% are (mostly English speaking) Japanese. An average of around 20-28 players participate on each sessions.

Come play badminton with us!

How to join

  • Fill-out the membership form.
  • Read the membership, rules and guidelines carefully.
  • Join the mailing list and our badminton Meetup group right after the confirmation of your membership.
  • Badminton schedule and upcoming games will be posted on Meetup.
  • Sign up for a session (a commitment so don't hold a spot if you cannot make it).
  • Show up in your badminton attire with your racket on the day.
  • Pay the participation fee to the person in-charge ON THE COURT before the game. You don't need to pay anything at the reception.
  • There's a possibility that we may cancel, postpone or adjust the time or change the venue of the upcoming games due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g. natural calamity, availability of the person in-charge, etc.).

Rules and guidelines

  • Reserving a spot and canceling or not showing up on the day is NOT COOL.
  • Maximum of 6 players per court for a 2-hour session.
  • Maximum of 8-10 players per court for a 3.5-hour session.
  • We have between 3-6 courts per session depending on the gym we (work very hard to) booked.
  • Players can be divided based on their skill.
  • Showing up alone is totally fine.
  • Arriving late is ok.
  • You will be paired with similar skill level player to play doubles with and sometimes with good player so you can improve.
  • Everyone play the same amount of time (in theory).
  • The person in-charge of the session is totally in control of the substitution of players. Main rule is you cannot PLAY BACK TO BACK if there are other players waiting.
  • Persons below 18yo are strictly prohibited to join.
  • Make sure you bring/wear proper badminton attire.
  • Indoor sports/badmiton shoes are strictly required. Any footwear you use/wear to walk outside is not allowed on the court.
  • Shuttlecocks are provided.
  • Basic racket rental available for 500yen.
  • Smoking, eating and drinking alcoholic beverage are prohibited.
  • No fighting or use of abusive words and unnacceptable behaviours towards the organizer and other players.
  • The organizer and the person in-charge of the game reserves the right to BAN you at anytime if you violate these guidelines.

  • The fee is 1,200yen/session/player and it is collected on the court by the person in-charge before the start of the session.
  • No need to pay anything at the gym reception.
  • The amount collected goes to pay for the court rent (between 8,700yen-14,000yen), non-refundable venue bond of about 400,000yen (club money), shuttlecocks (Adidas or Yonex), transportation allowance, meals and drinks allowance, time and work rendered by the organizer, the person in-charge of the game, the person that books the court (the most time consuming part), and other miscellaneous expenses.
  • We discourage you from joining if you have any issue with the game fee.
  • We understand that the game fee is expensive but this is the only way we can keep the club running and motivate the nice individuals involve in running the sessions and booking the courts.
