Badminton
Tokyo Gaijins or ‘TG’ organizes casual badminton sessions for various level players about twice a week on weeknights and weekends at conveniently located gyms in central Tokyo. We normally play doubles but sometimes singles too, depending on the no. of players that will show up. About 70% of our members are foreigners and 30% are (mostly English speaking) Japanese. An average of around 20-24 players participate on each sessions.
Come play badminton with us!

- There’s a possibility that we may cancel, postpone or adjust the time or change the venue of the upcoming games due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g. natural calamity, availability of the person in-charge, etc.) so please make sure that you are registered in our Meetup games/session notification.
- Show up in your badminton attire with your racket (available for 500yen rental if needed – no reservation needed) on the day.
- Pay the participation fee to the person in-charge ON THE COURT before the game. No need to pay anything at the reception.
- Play and have fun!
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Reservation for a session on Meetup does NOT guarantee you a spot. It’s first-come/first-served on the day. However, making a reservation is very helpful as it gives you an idea of how many players to expect and if the session will be potentially full. Meetup will also send you reminder of the session/s you signed up for.
- Maximum of 6 players per court for a 2-hour session.
- Maximum of 8-10 players per court for a 3.5-hour session.
- Between 3-6 courts per session depending on the gym we have booked.
- Players will be divided based on their skills levels.
- Showing up alone is totally fine.
- You will be paired with similar skill level player to play doubles with. Sometimes with good players so you can improve.
- Everyone play the same amount of time (in theory).
- The person in-charge of the session is totally in control of the substitution of players.
- Minors (under 18yo) are not allowed.
- Make sure you bring/wear proper badminton attire.
- Indoor (you don’t wear outside) sports/badmiton shoes are strictly required.
- Shuttlecocks are provided.
- Basic racket rental available for 500yen.
- Smoking, eating and drinking alcoholic beverage are prohibited.
- No fighting or use of abusive words and unacceptable behavior towards the organizer and other players.
- The organizer and the person in-charge of the game reserves the right to ban you from the group at anytime if you violate these guidelines.
GAME FEE
- The fee is 1,200yen/session/player and it is collected on the court by the person in-charge before the start of the session.
- No need to pay anything at the gym reception.
- The amount collected goes to pay for the court rent (between 8,700yen-15,000yen), decent brand shuttlecocks, transportation allowance, meals and drinks allowance, time and work rendered by the organizer, the person in-charge of the game, the person that books the court (the most time consuming and difficult part), and other miscellaneous expenses.
- THIS IS NOT A BUSINESS! THIS IS PROVIDING GOOD SERVICE SO YOU WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO PLAY BADMINTON REGULARLY.
- We discourage you from joining if you have any issue with the game fee.
- We understand that the game fee is expensive but this is the only way we can keep the club running and motivate the good individuals involve in running the sessions and booking the courts.
