Basketball
Tokyo Gaijins or ‘TG’ organizes pick-up basketball sessions regularly at conveniently located gyms in central Tokyo. We play five-on-five indoor pickup basketball games about twice a week on weekends and weeknights.
About 70% of our players are foreigners and 30% are (mostly English speaking) Japanese. An average of around 18-20 players participate on each session. We only organize pickup games for experienced basketball players.Come play hoops with us!
How to join
- Join the TG Basketball Meetup group.
- Upcoming games will be posted on Meetup.
- There’s a possibility that we may cancel, postpone or adjust the time or change the venue of the upcoming games due to unavoidable circumstances (e.g. natural calamity, availability of the person in-charge, etc.) so please make sure that you are registered in our Meetup group to get the game/session notifications.
- Reservation for a session on Meetup does NOT guarantee you a spot. It’s first-come/first-served on the day. However, making a reservation is very helpful as it gives you an idea of how many players to expect and if the session will be potentially full. Meetup will also send you reminder of the session/s you signed up for.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- We reserve the rights to decline you from joining the pick-up games if your basketball skill is below average level so not to affect everyone and the dynamics of the game. Please make sure you understand this very important rule before coming!
- The maximum no. of players allowed to play on each sessions are strictly implemented.
- Minors (below 18yo) are not allowed. Sorry 🙁
- Indoor basketball shoes are a MUST! Any footwear that you use/wear to walk outside are not allowed on the court.
- Smoking, eating and drinking alcoholic beverage inside the gym premises are prohibited.
- No fighting or use of abusive words and unacceptable behaviour towards other players and the organizers.
- The organizer and the person in-charge of the game reserves the rights to ban you from the group at anytime if you violate these guidelines.
Game fee
- The fee is 1,500yen/session/player and it is collected on the court by the person in-charge before the start of the session.
- No need to pay anything at the gym reception.
- The amount collected goes to pay for the court rent (between 8,700yen-15,000yen), good brand basketballs, transportation allowance, meals and drinks allowance, time and work rendered by the organizer, the person in-charge of the game, the person that books the court (the most time consuming and difficult part), and other miscellaneous expenses.
- THIS IS NOT A BUSINESS! THIS IS PROVIDING GOOD SERVICE SO YOU WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO PLAY HOOPS REGULARLY.
- We discourage you from joining if you have any issue with the game fee.
- We understand that the game fee is expensive but this is the only way we can keep the club running and motivate the good individuals involve in running the sessions and booking the courts.
